The Tour de Gironde a Velo - a journey of discovery of 480Km over 7 days from the Bordeaux vineyards to the Atlantic Ocean. Ride through and discover ten major tourist sites including 5 UNESCO sites - you will ride along the paths of the Velodyssee and Canal des Deux Mers a Velo, the Roger Lapebie Bike Trail Over 70% of the trail is for bikes only, making it an ideal route for all.
You will discover Bordeaux, Entre deux Mers, the Garonne Canal, the Landes de Gascogne Natural Regional Park, Arcachon Bay, the Atlantic Coast, Gironde Estuary and the vineyards of Medoc before returning to Bordeaux.
This Tour includes:
Day 1 - Bordeaux we collect you at your arrival point and transfer you to your comfortable hotel close to the centre of Bordeaux - the world capital of wine - this evening enjoy eating at one of the very good restaurants in the town.
Day 2 - Bordeaux to Blaye 45km - pass through Margaux - the Chateau and the Fort was a most important defensive site on the largest estuary in Western Europe (UNESCO site) tonight staying in the Citadel de Blaye overlooking the estuary
Day 3 Blaye to Royan 81km - riding along beside the Gironde Estuary on part of the route which connects the Atlantic to the Mediterranean (on the Entre deux Mers Veloroute)
Day 4 Royan to Lacanau-Ocean 82km - after a short ferry ride across the Gironde then onto the Velodyssee to Lacanau-Ocean. Velodyssee is part of the Euroveloroute 1 which runs along the Atlantic Ocean and is the longest bike route in France
Day 5 Lacanau-Ocean to Arcachon 66km - take the bike path lined with pine trees, through which can be glimpsed the largest sand dunes in Europe to Arcachon Bay which is a marine park combining exceptional natural areas and charming oyster farming villages.
Day 6 Arcachon to St Macaire 104km - (at 81km we will wait with the bus for anyone who cannot ride 104km)heading away from the sea you will now pass through a prime eco-tourism destination - Le Parc Regional Naturel de Landes de Gascogne
Day 7 St Macaire to Bordeaux 80km - explore the medieval old town built between the 12th and 17C, St Saviour and St Martins Church is an old priory of Romanesque & Gothic Style. Today ride the Roger Lapebie Bike trail back into Bordeaux.
Day 8 Transfer to Bordeaux Airport or Train Station
